Seventh Grade Enrichment 2007-08
Peabody Essex Museum Field Trip - May 2008
The PTO teamed up with Foundation 51 to help send the seventh graders to the
Peabody Essex Museum, America's oldest continuously operating museum, to
compliment their study of Asia for Humanities and Social Studies. The
Peabody Essex Museum was founded in 1799, sixteen years after the birth of
our nation and almost three-quarters of a century before the Metropolitan
Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, were founded. The
founders of the PEM traveled the world in search of trade, and ended up
bringing home a collection of Asian art that is world-renowned. Many of the
museum's collections rank among the finest of their kind. The museum
includes more than 2.4 million works of art and culture. A walk through the
Yin Yu Tang, an elegant southeastern Chinese house built over two hundred
years ago during the Qing dynasty, completes the tour.
African Celebration - November 2007
Africa Day was a huge success and the 7th graders had a day filled with guest speakers from Africa, African Music, including Drummers, and and a African Feast. Thank you to all of the parents who donated their time and created delicious African dishes for the kids and teachers to enjoy.

Celebration of Africa - November 2006
Africa Day is a special 7th grade event which celebrates all the students have learned about Africa and gives them a chance for some real "hands on" learning. Throughout this November day, the students listen to a speaker (this year it was someone who lived in the Congo). They also have a drumming demonstration and get to try this out. Next, they get to make African Masks with Linda Higgins and learn about this African tradition. Finally, they are treated to an African Feast made and served by 7th grade parents and including Sweet Potato Cookies, Coconut Rice, Banana Fritters, Ground Nut Stew and Morrocan Chicken with Couscous as well as lots of exotic fruit. A fun and informative day was had by all! Picture Gallery
Boston Field Trip - March 2006 All 7th graders took a field trip to Boston in March. The morning was spent at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where students walked through exhibits related to their studies of Asia and the Middle East. They then re-boarded the buses and made the trip across town to the Boston Museum of Science where they attended an IMAX program related to their science studies this year. PTO Enrichment funds were used for admissions fees to both facilities.
Peabody Essex Museum Field Trip - March 2005
In March, the entire seventh grade class visited the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. The PTO funded the transportation costs for the entire class to Salem on VIP Charter Coach buses. This made their trip to the museum possible. The seventh graders are studying Asia and this event kicked off their study of Asia for Humanities and Social Studies. They had the opportunity to see a real Chinese house, The Yin U Tang House, from the Quing Dynasty, which was enclosed in the museum. They also participated in the Introduction to Art tour in the museum.
