Eighth Grade Enrichment 2008-09
A Christmas Carol - December 2008 The entire 8th grade is going to see the Portland Stage Company's production of "A Christmas Carol." This is a tradition for the eighth graders as part of the ELA work with genres of literature. This trip exposes eighth graders to the theater production of a piece of literature that they study in school during December.
Eighth Grade Enrichment 2007-08
Substance Abuse Prevention Day - May 2008 The 8th grade class had substance abuse prevention day on May 15th to promote healthy living and making healthy choices as they transition into the high school. They had representatives from the Maine DEA, a speaker from Youth Alternatives, a group called Day One which included students in recovery and a group of young jugglers who talked about goal setting and making good choices. The day was well received by the students.
Southworth Planetarium - March 2008 The 8th grade classes visited the Southworth Planetarium in March where they attended the program called "Light years from Andromeda." This enhanced their study of the solar system by blending the science of light with the history of humanity. read more
The Leadership School from Kieve visited our eighth graders to discuss how to make healthy decisions about risky behaviors, relationships and peer pressure. Instructors aim to help students learn about themselves while practicing new skills. Students are encouraged to use these new skills to take positive risks, set higher goals, and make healthy life choices. more
Eighth Grade Enrichment 2006-07
Before heading to the high school for Step-Up Day, 8th graders spent time looking forward and taking stock of the skills they possess that are needed for success in high school.
Drug Awareness Day - May 2007 The PTO sponsored a visit from Day One, a substance abuse prevention program, as part of this very important day of education about the dangers of substance abuse.
