Celebration
of the Arts - March 2008 The third annual Celebration of the Arts was celebrated by the 1000 students, grades K – 5, of the Mabel I Wilson, Drowne Road and North Yarmouth Memorial Schools in March 2008. In 2006 Luann Lawler, MIW Music Teacher, developed and coordinated this extensive month long arts program, made up of visiting artists and performers representing a variety of genres, to supplement the art and music curriculum of the students at the MIW School. Also in 2006, Margo Harrington, Co Chair of the MSAD51 Arts Alliance created the Art & Literacy Program. Throughout the month long Celebration of the Arts a number of volunteers visit each classroom to present a grade specific lesson which combines a read aloud book with the examination of complementary art work created by well known artists. Following this discussion a piece of student artwork is created. This artwork is exhibited at Family Arts Night, an annual arts event hosted by the Arts Alliance. more

Lowe's Tool Box for Education Grant was awarded to the North Yarmouth Memorial School to purchase playground equipment. Tom Gilley presented NYMS principal, Becky Foley, with the check in the amount of $2,400.00 at the February PTO meeting. Congratulations!!
