    Congratulations Elliot!
Eliot Routh, the son of Veronica & Daniel Routh of North Yarmouth, is one of four Maine high school students to win this year's Portland Stage Company's Young Writer's Contest.

The Second Annual Little Festival of the Unexpected Young Writers Project gives high school playwrights the opportunity to be read, seen, and heard by professionals.   Young writers submit original scripts of short plays or monologues to PSC.   Selected scripts are presented as public, staged readings by professional actors during the Little Festival of the Unexpected in the Portland Stage Studio Theater. The LFU Young writers took part in the festival by attending rehearsals for their script, observing rehearsals of full-length plays in development, and meeting with professional playwrights in residence in Portland during the festival.

    Congratulations Leah

Leah Wilcox, the daughter of David and Doreen Wilcox of North Yarmouth has recently won the title as the state champion for the National Readers Digest Word Power Challenge!

The Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge is a vocabulary contest designed for schools nationwide with any or all of grades four through eight.   There are four levels of competition: classroom, grade, state and national.   As a state champion, Leah will represent the state of Maine in the fifth Annual Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge Championship May 13-15.  The Preliminary Rounds will take place on Monday, May 14.  On Tuesday, Al Roker will lead the National Word Power Challenge Championship Rounds at Universal Studios.   The championship rounds will be taped for television and broadcast this summer on NBC.

Leah is an avid reader and it has paid off since Readers Digest is sending her and her entire family to Florida to watch the competition and enjoy Sea World for a fabulous three days. She didn't study for the state champion position but she is studying now in hopes to receive the title as the national champion and the first place token of $25,000.00. Leah Wilcox says "I am just happy that I have had the experience of winning the state title and I can't wait to meet people who read continuously like me!"   FMI on the Readers Digest National Word Power Challenge visit  www.rd.com/nwpc.   We are so proud of you Leah.   Best of luck in Orlando!
